ALS Awareness Month: 30 Years of Care. Advocacy. Research. Family.
Each May, communities across the country come together to recognize ALS Awareness Month — a time to honor those living with ALS, remember those we’ve lost, and raise awareness for a disease that still has no cure.
For ALS United Rocky Mountain, this month carries special meaning.
In 2026, we celebrate 30 years of walking alongside individuals and families impacted by ALS across Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. For three decades, our community has shown what it means to stand together through uncertainty, grief, resilience, and hope.
ALS changes lives quickly and profoundly. Every day, families face difficult realities — navigating mobility changes, communication challenges, breathing support, caregiving responsibilities, financial strain, and the emotional weight of a disease that progresses without pause.
But no one should face ALS alone.
Because of our community of supporters, families receive personalized care and guidance from our locally based care coordinators who meet them where they are. They gain access to support groups, equipment loans, quality-of-life grants, educational resources, advocacy efforts, and opportunities to connect with others who understand the journey.
At the same time, we continue investing in research and advocacy efforts that move us closer to better treatments — and ultimately, a cure.
This month is not only about awareness. It is about people.
It is about the father learning to communicate with eye-gaze technology.
The spouse becoming a full-time caregiver overnight.
The child trying to understand what ALS means for their family.
The friends, neighbors, clinicians, and supporters who continue to show up again and again.
Over the past 30 years, we have learned something powerful: hope grows in community.
As we recognize ALS Awareness Month, we invite you to stand with families impacted by ALS by helping raise awareness, sharing stories, attending events, advocating for change, and supporting the work that makes local care possible.

Together, We End ALS®.
Because no one should face ALS alone.
