Joel’s Legacy of Helping Others Living with ALS

Joel Goldhirsh was diagnosed with ALS in April of 2019 and after a long and challenging battle he passed away in March, 2024.

After graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in Accounting, Joel ran a wealth management company, Goldhirsh & Goldhirsh in California for 33 years. He and his wife Karen worked together in their practice for 27 years before Karen retired in 2016 to be a caregiver for her father. Joel was a tireless advocate for his clients, always focused on doing his very best on their behalf. Joel and Karen’s clients became their friends with many visiting throughout the years.

With his ALS diagnosis, Joel sold their practice and the two of them moved to Littleton, CO in November 2020 to be close to their youngest daughter, her husband and their adorable 1-year-old granddaughter. Joel passed in March 2024 and will be missed by his wife, Karen, his two daughters, their husbands and four grandchildren, who live in Colorado and New Jersey.

During Joel’s ALS journey, he lost the ability to use his arms, hands and legs, his mind stayed sharp up until the last week before he passed.

“Our two cockapoos miss riding on his lap as he rolled through our neighborhood in his power wheelchair. I miss my husband and best friend of 41 years but glad he is no longer suffering”, Karen Goldhirsh, his loving wife.

Refusing to be a victim, he chose to be an advocate by helping fund and write The Joel Goldhirsh ALS Home and Daily Living Guide along with donating financial assistance to ALS United Rocky Mountain’s Quality of Life Grant.
