Standing Together for ALS: Federal Funding Wins in FY26

At ALS United Rocky Mountain, we believe in the power of advocacy, and this year, that power delivered real progress.

Thanks to sustained action by advocates across the country and strong bipartisan leadership in Congress, the FY26 federal funding package includes meaningful new investments in ALS research and public health programs. These resources strengthen the national research ecosystem and bring renewed hope to people and families living with ALS.

Key FY26 Funding Highlights

The new funding package includes:

• $90 million for ACT for ALS at NIH — A $15 Million Increase
• $30 million for ALS Research Through ARPA-H — A New Investment
• $145 million for NIH ALS Research — Level Funding
• $40 million for Department of Defense ALS Research (CDMRP) — Level Funding
• $10 million for the CDC ALS Registry — Level Funding

Together, these investments support research, improve data collection, and strengthen public health infrastructure—critical steps toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Progress, With More Work Ahead

While we are encouraged by these gains, we also recognize that several priority funding requests were not fully met. The ALS community continues to advocate for even stronger investments to accelerate discovery and expand access to care.

That work is far from over.
